Modifying the lower tong for your spot welder
If you spent the $150.00 to get the 110 volt HF spot welder you are probably trying to figure out how this will work inside the receiver. The answer is it won't until the lower tong is replaced or modified. A new tong that has been modified to fit the needs of AK building will run $20 to $30 plus shipping. I offer this modification for $15.00 shipped. Now this is an added expense that you do not need if all your going to weld is the AK rails. It is very easy to modify the lower tong to fit the AK receiver. You can either cut off the 90 degree bend or flatten it out. Grind or file the first 2.5" flat on 2 sides until it is about about .25" thick. Using a 17/64" drill bit put a hole all the way through the flat about .75" in from the end. Thread this with a 5/16"-16 tap all the way through. Screw in the original tip using lithium grease (You can get little packets from a computer store). The tip will need to be shortened about 3/16" and a flat will need to be filed on each side as in the picture. Reinstall the tong and adjust them so the upper tong closes tip to tip with the lower tong. You will now be able to spot weld the rails in from the top and bottom (Through the mag well).
