I have been using the 36" bolt cutter rivet tool for the front trunnion for about a year and have had no issues with it so I decided to try to do the rear rivets with the spare I had. I cut down each jaw by 3/4" and added a 5/16" dimple to one of them.

I made the bucking bar from 1/4" scrap with a 5/16" dimple and use this to lock the rivet and receiver in place. The long end of the rivet is set into the 5/16" dimple in the jaw for forming.

As you apply pressure you need to watch to be sure the rivet is crushing straight. If it starts to bend you can either correct it with pliers or rotate the receiver to apply opposite pressure. You will end up with nicely formed rivet heads and a very tight fit between the receiver and trunnion.

For doing the center support just reverse the jaws and you will get a flat head for the rivet. I bought the 36" bolt cutters for $20.00 and it took 30 minutes to do the modifications. This is a very economical option to buying a press and long rivet jig.
